Dance of the druids by Me

Shadows crawled over the Scottish highlands.  As the Sun died and the moon rose up over the land every creature of the light huddled away in their homes as night dawned.  And out came the creatures of the dark.

They hurried in secret and in silence with only a few exchanges between them.  The people ran through the night carrying their food, clothing, and ritual incense.  For tonight was a special night, tonight was the night of the druids.

Reaching their chosen place the druids quickly prepared their rituals.  They drew a circle in the ground and placed all the equipment they would need.  Owls, mice, and other curious animals could not help but watch the thousand year old rituals that were taking place.

The druids were now ready, and they stood on the circle and held hands.  Then the ritual began as the druids began to chant their prayers to the Earth.  The druids then sang out their happiness to the world and began the ritual in earnest.

Holding hands the druids began to dance within their holy circle.  At first the dancing was slow and monk-like as the druids hummed their sacred rites.  Then the dancing grew faster and faster and faster as the excitement that had haunted the young men and women who sought to emulate their hero's replaced the religious feeling with a feeling of joy.

The druids then played more extravagant music that their hero's had no method of emulating.  The music roared loudly and the druids sped up their dancing to stay in step with the frenetic beat.  The sound echoed throughout the Scottish hills attracting the attention of more creatures of the night.

Other druids, lured by the sounds, arrived with their own devices and took part in the grandiose dancing.  Dozens of druids quickly took to the dance as the music grew higher and higher.

Eventually some druids got tired of dancing, these druids decided to focus on other acts of their religion.  Some paired off and set off deep into the hills were they could be alone together.  Other druids were more social.

These social druids became the lords of the party, solely on the virtues of the items they had brought.  Beer, snacks, and other delicious items were brought out and shared amongst the druids.  The party then lost any semblance of religion that it could claim and devolved into an orgy of energy.  Then the incense came out.

The incense rapidly became the height of the rave and soon half of the druids huffed, injected, or smoked the drugs that were so key to the ceremony.  The sound and the pounding of hundreds of feet on the green Earth soon combined with the hallucinogens to create drowsy pallor of smoke that infected the entire gathering.

Then the police arrived.

Alerted by fearful neighbors the police arrived in force to capture the whole cult.

Screaming into their loudspeakers and grabbing surprised men and women the cops
surrounded the ceremony and rounded up and druid they could catch.  Some lucky or perhaps swift druids outran the police and fled into the night.  Most however we either to surprised or too stoned to put up any effective resistance and they were soon handcuffed and taken away.

By next morning the ground was scarred with the remains of used drugs, broken beer bottles and the grass was broken apart by the tread of feet.  Oh how cruel to the Earth this devilish ritual had been.
Here is one of my shorter ideas. I just thought it would be cool to do a portrait of a rave.

I kinda like this story due to its simplicity.

I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it.

"Long ago, there was this race of people called... the Druids. No-one knows who they were or what...

... they were doing..."
